Sources and kinds of data
The data in irishnonprofits.ie
There are two kinds of data in the Irish Nonprofits Database, from which this website is built: regulatory data and voluntary disclosures.
Regulatory Data
These are derived from the filings which all Irish companies must make to the Companies Registration Office (CRO), and from the regularly-updated list of nonprofits with charity status for tax exemption or relief. INKEx acquires and digitises the data, and stores them in its own custom-made data repository, the Irish Nonprofits Database. These are the sources of our data:
- Regulatory data from the CRO updated daily (e.g. directors’ names and dates of appointment/resignation, company registered number and address, CHY number where available etc.)
- Company documents filed with the CRO: the Memorandum & Articles of Association (from which we derive the objects clause), and the audited financial statements, whose elements are re-keyed into the database
- The list of nonprofits with a CHY number, published and regularly updated by Revenue
The financial information published on this Beta website mostly derives from audited accounts for the year ended 2009. We plan to update these in the coming months with accounts data derived from 2010 accounts.
All sources of income, including grants and donations from all named sources, are keyed into the Irish Nonprofits Database, together with total expenditure, and the analysis of assets and liabilities reported in the balance sheet.
Regulatory data cannot be edited by the nonprofit concerned. They are indicated on each nonprofit’s micro-site with an “R”.
Voluntary data
Each nonprofit company listed has its own five-page microsite, which INKEx has built for them re-using their own regulatory data.
With a secure log-in, someone in each of these nonprofits can enter their own micro-site anytime, and provide additional information, including images, reports and external links. These voluntary disclosures are referred to on this website as +Plus data, and are indicated in each case with a “V”.
