Irishnonprofits.ie

Irishnonprofits.ie is a free searchable website with detailed information on more than 8,000 nonprofit (limited by guarantee) companies in Ireland, and summary information on a further 3,700 unincorporated charitable entities.

Until now, information about this sector has been available only from the individual nonprofits themselves, from a handful of published directories which are limited in scope, and from regulatory authorities (for example the Companies Registration Office).

The publication of this website marks the end of a 30-month project for which funding was provided by public, private and nonprofit sources; we are now seeking funding to develop it to become a permanent fixture.

Irish Nonprofits Database

The Irish Nonprofits Database has been created by Irish Nonprofits Knowledge Exchange (INKEx) to act as a repository for regulatory and voluntarily disclosed information about Irish public benefit nonprofits. Like the organisations listed on this site, we are ourselves a public benefit nonprofit company.

In cooperation with the Companies Registration Office, we re-use public domain information filed by Irish nonprofit companies in compliance with the provisions of Company Law.

Using a daily feed of these regulatory data, we update the Irish Nonprofits Database regularly, and publish an extract to www.irishnonprofits.ie. Regulatory data in each listing on the website is indicated by an “R”; voluntary data is indicated by a “V”.

In February 2012 we published a report – Irish Nonprofits: what do we know? – using the database to describe the scale and scope of the nonprofit sector in Ireland.  We are happy to receive queries about reports derived from the database, from people working in the sector, in government, in research, in the media, in the private sector.
